This is the original 'Art of the Stick' video that I made for a presentation in Korea. I added some additional information and video on at the end.
There have been a number of comments about the way I have left the viewer hanging at the end of the video. Not only was this video used for a presentation, it is also used for instruction. The video ends where traditional wood turning techniques take over. However, if you wish to see the completed piece you will find it on my website here: http://www.jimlorrimanwoodturner.com/.... Scroll down, the piece is at the bottom of the page. You can also find similar vases here: http://www.jimlorrimanwoodturner.com/...
The Creative Lives Project mentioned at the end of this video did not get any traction. I encourage all of you who have any skills in the arts, crafts or culture to teach the video camera what you know. Talk to your local museum to see if they will creative a digital archive where these skills can be on record for any who wish to study and become adept at them.
In 30 years (2046) many of the skill sets that are practicing today will be gone. We have the means and technology to capture much of which has been learned. Please take the little extra time required to leave an archive of your accomplishments behind. There are generations to come who will be grateful that you did.

I think I noticed the finished article, but it is strange that you did not make a decent portrait of it in a nice place.

Jim you are amazing, these are absolutely gorgeous. Especially since they're basically coming from scrap wood. my grandfather was a carpenter / woodworker, these pieces really bring back some great memories. He made mainly pens, vases, and bowls from stabilized burls, but he did some bowls and vases from single pieces of wood. he did not make them like this, theyre were just spun from one piece. Again amazing amazing work, well done sir. Do you sell your products somewhere?

Wth. Where's the vase. You made us sit through far too much detail and didn't bother to show us the main event. You get too bogged down in the detail.

I recognized your Canadian accent, and was surprised you still use the inch and 16ths system. Beautiful work!

Why on earth would you use an ice pick anywhere near a spinning saw blade? If you were to slip and that ice pick hit the blade, you would have massive shrapnel flying at you. That's a terrible practice.
